Genesis 3:1-3 (AMPC) 3 Now the serpent was more subtle and crafty than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made. And he [Satan] said to the woman, Can it really be that God has said, You shall not eat from every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden, 3 Except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.
Genesis 3:7-8 (AMPC) 7 Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves apronlike girdles. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Being selfish started at the beginning of time with Adam and Eve. They were having a great time doing what God asked them to do. Once the serpent showed Eve something they didn’t have – they put their own will in front of God’s. The result was they got into works of the flesh and experienced fear for the first time and they ran and hid. We cannot hide from our decisions.
Romans 7:15 (AMPC) 15 For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled, bewildered]. I do not practice or accomplish what I wish, but I do the very thing that I loathe [[a]which my moral instinct condemns].
We need to work with God in areas that keep us in bondage. It’s tough to do what we are supposed to do and not give in to what we want to do. Each and every person has things where they know they improve and it is just difficult. I’m thankful for a God who forgives me and knows my heart in these situations. Growing up and becoming spiritually mature is quite a journey and a tough journey.
Whether we like it or not, God is in charge. God wants to do so many good things for us but we just tend to have a hard time understanding that sometimes. We change one act of doing right one choice at a time. Some things we just know we should give up for the sake of God because we know it is bad for us. The thing is when we hold on to things we know we should sacrifice – it is stealing our joy a bit because it is eating at our soul. If we could just let the flesh suffer a little bit and focus on the reward that is coming our way.
Ask God to help you endure the fleshly suffering to experience the freedom that is yours!
Galatians 5:13 (AMPC) 13 For you, brethren, were [indeed] called to freedom; only [do not let your] freedom be an incentive to your flesh and an opportunity or excuse [for [a]selfishness], but through love you should serve one another.
If you would like to accept Jesus as your savior, and you are not quite sure how, it is as simple as saying a prayer to God letting Him know you are ready to accept Him into your life. Say this prayer if you would like to invite Jesus to live in your heart:
Father God, I love you and believe in you. I need you Lord and I am sorry for my sins and the way that I live. Lord, I want you in my life. I receive Jesus as my savior and Lord. I believe that Jesus died for me and rose from the dead. Lord take me as I am and make me the way you want me to be. God, thank you for saving me and being with me on my journey. I am looking forward to my journey with you Lord. I know you will equip me for my journey and I am glad I have you by my side as I walk this walk of Life. Thank you Lord, I love you. Amen
